In the world of divers, there are places that are more than just a destination – they are true dreams. Palau, an archipelago in the heart of the Pacific, tops the list of these dream destinations. With its over 500 islands floating in a sea of various shades of blue, Palau offers an underwater experience that is second to none. The visibility underwater, the diversity of marine life, and the incredible coral formations make each dive an unforgettable adventure.

Shark Week Palau with Fish 'n Fins - Diving and So Much More

One of the most outstanding events Palau has to offer is Shark Week Palau, organized by Fish 'n Fins, a pioneer in diving experiences. Shark Week is not your ordinary diving event. It's a week-long celebration of the sea, attracting divers from all over the world, not just for the breathtaking dives but also for the opportunity to actively participate in shark conservation.

In 2020, I had the pleasure of participating in this unique event. The journey to Palau was surprisingly straightforward. I flew with China Airlines from Vienna via Taipei and experienced a flight that surpassed all expectations in terms of comfort and service. Upon my arrival in Palau, I was overwhelmed by the unparalleled beauty of the islands and the warm welcome of the people.

Fish 'n Fins exceeded all my expectations regarding organization and hospitality. Every day of Shark Week was filled with dives that brought me closer to the majestic sharks than I had ever dreamed possible. However, what really made Shark Week special for me was the Citizen Science project. Under the guidance of Tova Harel, the director of Fish 'n Fins and the Micronesian Shark Foundation, we collected data on shark populations, giving me the feeling of not just witnessing the beauty of the ocean but also actively contributing to its protection.

This experience deeply moved me and intensified my desire to continue working for the protection of marine biodiversity. The realization that each of us can make a difference was one of the most valuable lessons I took away from Shark Week. Now, as Shark Week 2024 approaches, I'm counting the days until I return to Palau. The anticipation of diving back into the crystal-clear waters and exploring the fascinating world beneath the surface is overwhelming. Even more exciting is the prospect of being part of the Citizen Science project again and contributing to the protection of sharks and the ocean.

I hope this story inspires others to discover the unmatched beauty of Palau and to actively participate in the conservation of our seas. Perhaps we'll meet at Shark Week 2024 in Palau – diving together into an adventure that is more than just diving; it is a chance to learn, protect, and make a change.

Until then, dream of Palau's endless shades of blue and prepare to be part of a movement that forever changes the way we view the oceans and their inhabitants. The 22nd annual Shark Week 2024 will take place from March 15th to March 22nd, 2024. For more information, visit Fish 'n Fins' website (www.fishnfins.com).
