As Palau's premier dive shop, Fish'n Fins is proud to offer the PADI Self-Reliant Diver course. This course is designed for experienced divers who want to improve their skills and confidence in diving alone or with a team. In this course, you'll learn how to plan and execute a safe dive without a buddy. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the academic and practical aspects of self-reliant diving, and help you become a more competent and confident diver.
The PADI Self-Reliant Diver course is designed for Advanced Open Water Divers who are at least 18 years old and have logged 100 dives. Before enrolling in the course, you'll need to complete a skills assessment with your PADI Self-Reliant Diver Instructor to ensure that you have the necessary skills and experience.
The academic portion of the course focuses on dive planning and emergency management. You'll learn how to calculate your air consumption rate, plan your dives accordingly, and prepare for emergency situations. You'll also learn about life support system redundancy, which means having a backup plan for critical equipment like your air supply.
The practical portion of the course consists of three self-reliant training dives. During these dives, you'll practice essential self-reliant diving skills like performing an air consumption rate swim, switching to a redundant air supply system during simulated emergencies, swimming without a mask, navigating to various points, and using a DSMB. You'll also learn how to use redundant dive computers and surface signaling devices to ensure your safety during the dive.
