The Fish Identification course is open to all PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers or higher who are at least 10 years old. During two scuba dives, you'll learn how to identify the characteristics of local fish families and species, fish survey techniques and strategies, and Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life. You'll also learn how to reference the exact species of fish you see, making it easier for you to communicate with local scuba instructors and other divers.
Beyond basic scuba equipment, you'll need a slate to record what you see, and a fish identification card if available for your area. Our instructors may suggest additional equipment or references depending on what you're likely to see on your dives. By the end of the course, you'll be a confident and knowledgeable diver, capable of identifying a wide variety of fish species.
